Annual Winter Horsemanship Classes

Our annual winter class schedule is here! These classes are all un-mounted, and require no riding or special attire. Any special equipment needed will be provided. Unless otherwise noted, classes do not require any previous experience. All classes are open to everyone - you do not need to be a current or regular Woodsong Farm customer!

All classes are open to all unless stated otherwise. Everyone is welcome! You do not need to be a current Woodsong Farm customer in order to participate. All classes require registration at least four days prior to the class date.
Mane Pulling: A Prelude to Braiding & More - Saturday, February 13th - 2:00pm-3:30pm - $15.00

Do you love seeing a beautiful set of braids in the mane or a neat and tidy unbraided mane? We do, and we can show you how to achieve those results! Scissors are not the answer!

It is impossible to create a beautiful set of braids without properly preparing the mane beforehand. Too often we see inexperienced people braid a poorly prepared mane and the shoddy results speak for themselves.

This class will discuss and demonstrate the ideal mane desired for braiding and non-braiding. We will include ways to deal with the extra thick mane, the too thin mane, and the mane that lies on the wrong side. We will also discuss and demonstrate restraint techniques for horses that are less than ideal about standing for the procedure. Following our discussion and demonstration, participants will have the opportunity for hands-on practice. All necessary tools and supplies will be provided. Pre-Registration required..

Bandaging - Thursday, February 18th - 3:30pm-5:00pm - $15.00 first-timers / $5.00 repeats

This class is a repeat of a class we did earlier this winter. Newcomers are welcome! Previous participants of this class who would like to use it as a refresher/supervised practice session are welcome to join us again at a discounted rate!

This is a hands-on learning experience! A discussion regarding differences in types of bandages (stable, shipping, polo, etc.), materials used, size selection, situations in which bandages are needed (medical & non-medical), pros and cons of using boots vs. wraps, problems from incorrect application, etc. will begin our class. Following our discussion, will be a demonstration of how to apply a variety of proper bandages. The remainder of the class will be for individual participation and tutorial.

This class is suitable for both the individual who has never bandaged before, as well as someone who has bandaged previously but still needs improvement, or who would simply like to expand their bandaging knowledge. Like with so much related to horses, correct practice is essential and we can provide you with the assistance you need to perfect your skills. Being able to bandage correctly is an essential horsemanship skill. All supplies will be provided..
