For novice beginner and inexperienced young riders age 5 - 14 yrs. "Pony Kids" is an introductory program
for children to learn about ponies and horses, their nature, handling, equipment, colors, grooming, daily care and riding. "Pony Kids" can also look forward to sharing their day
with the farm's dogs and cats and other assorted animals.
Our big blue and white tent, which is located in front of the stable and
overlooks the riding arena, is "Pony Kids" headquarters. Our day begins at 9am, meeting in our Pony Kids tent for animal chore
assignments. After the morning animal chores, about 10am, campers gather
for a snack break, which is often spent watching our upper level riders
in a lesson. Following snack, campers participate in a demonstration,
lecture or hands on practice (often there are several small groups doing
various activities) based on their level of experience. After lunch,
campers work on horse oriented arts and crafts, play games, help with
afternoon animal chores and have a riding lesson. Beginner and novice
riders ride in half hour private lessons. Our more experienced novice riders,
ride in either small groups or private lessons. Our camp day ends at 2pm
with parents coming to the Pony Kids tent to pick up their campers.
Campers bring their own snack and lunch. Riding boots (or shoes with a
heel) and long pants must be worn for riding. Shorts may be worn on hot
days for other activities, no sandals. ASTM Riding helmets must be worn
when riding (available for rent/sale) and long hair must be in a pony
tail. For comfort and safety we encourage campers to have their own
helmets, wear riding pants and paddock boots. All are available in our
on site Tack Shop.

For our frequent campers who are at the walk trot riding level or above,
we offer the opportunity to participate in our horse shows. These are
competitions open to outside exhibitors, they are not camp horse shows.
Classes include lead line, pre beginners, walk trot, short stirrup and
higher levels. Please let us know in advance if you are interested and
we will give you further information.
We emphasize safety, education providing solid horsemanship basics,
individualized attention and fun in our Pony Kids program. Over half of
our "Pony Kids" are return campers. Many "Pony Kids" have continued to
participate each summer and move on into our more advanced Horsemasters
day program. Woodsong has a long established excellent reputation for
providing top quality riders and horses.
