Winter Classes for 2008
Our annual winter class schedule is here! These classes are all un-mounted, and require no riding or special attire. Any special equipment needed will be provided. Unless otherwise noted, classes do not require any previous experience. All classes are open to everyone - you do not need to be a current or regular Woodsong Farm customer!
Registration closes seven days prior to class date.
Payment must accompany registration.

Video Day #1 - The Judges Eye -- Saturday, February 2, 2008 3:00-4:30pm $15.00
You know how you felt about your performance, but did you ever wonder how the judge saw your performance? Watch and discuss the video The Judges Eye by acclaimed USEF judge Linda Andrisani. Through the experienced eye of a veteran judge, we will examine major and minor jumping faults, the importance of first impressions, what is looked for in a good mover and jumper, and the key components that comprise your score.
Video Day #2 - Lessons in Horsemanship with George Morris -- Saturday, February 9, 2008 2:30-4:30pm $15.00
Under the guidance of world renowned equestrian George Morris and other top professionals, eight junior riders hone fundamental horse management and riding skills in a special training session, designed to show what it takes to be champions at the international level. In addition to the riding lessons, this unique video presentation takes you behind the scenes as the riders garner stable management tips from mentor grooms, “a who’s who” of today’s top grand prix stars and trainers including Olympians Beezie Madden and Margie Goldstein Engle.
Video Day #3 - Equitation -- Saturday, February 16, 2008 2:00-5:00 $20.00
We will first discuss “Equitation” and how it differs from Hunters or Jumpers. Learn exactly what comprises the USEF “tests” and understand how they affect riders, the definitions of Maiden-Novice-Limit-Intermediate equitation and understanding eligibility, and more. We will then watch and discuss the 2007 USEF National Medal Final.
Video Day #4 - Eventing -- Saturday, January 19, 2008 3:30-5:30pm $10.00
We will watch and discuss this nations’ premier three-day event, The Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event. This is a great opportunity to be introduced to the sport and watch and learn from the best-of-the-best.
Grooming & Tacking -- Saturday, January 26, 2008 2:30-4:30pm $20.00
If you would like to learn how to groom and tack your horse or pony, please join us! In addition to learning how to put on a saddle and bridle, we will cover martingales and boots (for the horse of course!)as well. If you already know how, but need a little extra help to make you comfortable and proficient, then this is a great time for you to have supervised practice.
Bits and Bitting -- Monday, February 11, 2008 4:00-5:30pm $15.00
A hands-on discussion of several commonly used bits, and a few not so common ones - including their fit and function. If you cannot readily identify a kimberwick, dr. bristol, corkscrew, or pelham this class is for you! What are bit loops and what is their function? What is a Tom Thumb? What is a bit converter? Join us and learn the answers! If you cannot easily, and correctly, put any bit on a bridle and correctly fit it to the horse, please join us! Considerations to take when selecting a bit will also be discussed.
Bandaging -- Monday, February 4, 2008 4:00-5:30pm $15.00
A completely hands-on class! Learn about and perfect three basic types of bandages: Stable Wraps, Shipping Wraps, and Polo Wraps. Wrapping is an important skill to have and to be able to execute well! Discussion will include the many reasons for wrapping, as well as pros and cons, material options, and a discussion of wrapping difficult areas such as knees. If you don’t know how to wrap correctly, or cannot do it well, please join us to learn before the time arises that you need to have the skill mastered.
Horse Showing for Parents and Spectators -- Saturday, April 5, 2008 2:30-4:30 $20.00
If you would like to understand more about what you are watching, please join us! Do you wonder why a rider wins one class and then is last in the next, yet they looked the same to you? Sometimes all this information can be a lot to take in, so handouts will be provided for you to reference later if desired. A visual presentation will aid the discussion. Feel free to bring a list of questions of things that you don’t understand, or simply always wondered about!
